William Kentridge Artist Study

For me, the challenge of this piece was to capture the man’s facial contours and to record his anger and emotion.  This was what drew me to the picture in the first place, and was what led me to using it as my piece in my study of William Kentridge.

The use of dark lines and harsh shading and highlights conveys all the emotion that jumps off the page. The original drawing had even tiny red lines and dots in it which gave the work character and power.  Red is a colour often associated with emotion and revolution.  These tiny lines were hardly visible but gave the picture an added dimension.
